Shell Coral Bone Horn

Our natural shells originate mostly from the Philippines and New Zealand, as well as here in Hawaii. One of the most popular, being the Paua shell, or green abalone, due to its beautiful iridescent qualities.

Coral grows in a wide variety of colors and shapes, ranging from white to black, and fan shaped to short nub-like pieces. Many of these living formations are found along the Mediterranean coasts, Japan, and Hawaii. By far most popular for jewelry, red and black coral is considered a highly treasured gemstone.

Bone beads are truly made of animal bone, and are a by-product when animal meat is used for consumption. Many bone pieces are dyed with organic dyes like tea dyes, which help maintain the natural feel of these favored beads.

Buffalo horn, because of its natural luster when polished, is a very versatile component in jewelry design. Much of the horn used today originates from the Philippines. Jewelry makers have discovered that golden horn is a great substitute for amber.
